2009 Pilgrimage for Peace walkers will cover an average of 20 miles per day as they wend their way through all six New England states. See itinerary >>
We will walk approximately 1,000 miles over 50 days. The literal steps are intended to be little steps for all toward transforming ourselves and recognizing that peace starts with us. We believe in ending suffering, hunger, disease. We believe in promoting education, health care, and general well-being for all people. The simple act of people joining together in a walk for peace will make a powerful statement to the world.
We are committed to the same principles of non-violent protest embraced by Mahatma Ghandi and Martin Luther King, and embrace the principles embodied in the Universal Declaration of Human Rights.
"May love grow in you as you take these steps, as you take your breaths, as you think, as you feel, as you pray. We are connected by one street as we are connected by one earth. May this walk lead us into new pathways for a just peace and for compassion" (Paul Sittason Stark)
Participants will included members of the Jewish, Methodist, Islamic, Buddhist, Catholic, Episcopal, Presbyterian, Unitarian, Baptist, Lutheran and other faiths, as well as a delegation from Nicaragua.
All people are invited to join the Walk for Peace. You can join for the for a day or two, or even for a few hours! This is an opportunity to meet like-minded people.
Walk with us as we transform fears into compassion and apathy into action. Join with us in making the statement that we, all the people of the world, can no longer tolerate war or the ravages of war; that we can no longer bear the physical and economic injustices which are both the causes and the results of war.
Join with us in our quest for peace.
